ALIGARH, January 10: The Department of Foreign Languages (German Section), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the AMU Alumni Association Germany e.V. and A&B Recruiting GmbH, Germany, to introduce German language certificate courses and strengthen academic and professional pathways for students aspiring to study and work in Germany.
The LOI was signed at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohd Mohsin Khan, Registrar Prof. Aasim Zafar, Dean of the Faculty of International Studies Prof. Aftab Alam, President of the AMU Alumni Association Germany Dr. Ajax Mohamed, and Vice-President Mr. Imran Ahmad.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Naima Khatoon underlined the importance of alumni-driven international collaborations in enhancing students’ global exposure and employability. Prof. Mohd Mohsin Khan highlighted the growing relevance of foreign language proficiency across disciplines, while Prof. Aasim Zafar stressed the role of formal academic frameworks in sustaining international cooperation.
Prof. Aftab Alam described the initiative as a strategic step towards advancing AMU’s internationalisation efforts, noting the consistent academic performance of the German Section. Dr. Ajax Mohamed said the alumni association is committed to supporting AMU students through language training, mentorship and professional guidance, while Mr. Imran Ahmad emphasised that structured certification would better prepare students for the German academic and job market.
Dr. Syed Salman Abbas, Assistant Professor of German, said the proposed courses would enhance linguistic proficiency and intercultural competence, key requirements for academic and professional integration in Germany.
The collaboration aims to offer German language certification, intercultural orientation and career guidance, particularly for students from engineering, computer applications, polytechnic and nursing streams. The LOI will serve as a precursor to a formal Memorandum of Understanding and will initially remain valid for three years.
